SURTR recorded their second full-length album, Pulvis et Umbra, at Mon Studio, Nancy - FR in the beginning of September.
Day 1 & 2
We began the day by installing the drum set and the mics. We decided to record this new album in a "live" way. This means all of us were in the same room. Guitar and bass were plugged into amp simulators in order to have only the drum sound in the room's microphones.

We've recorded guitar, bass and drums at the same time. The goal of that was to keep our live feeling. On that day we recorded the first two songs of the album : Rise Again and Three Winters of War. The next day, we managed to record the five other songs just by playing 3 takes of each.

Day 3
As the drum parts were completely recorded, we checked all bass parts and guitar parts and put the raw sound into our amps. It's called "to reamp". It's exactly as if we were playing on our amps but what we've played was recorded live and not separated from the drum's recording.

Yann, the sound wizard, really managed to catch our sound in the best possible way!

Day 4
On the 4th day, we recorded the second guitar to make the sound bigger and also all the clean sound riffs, solo and overdub melodies.
Day 5
All our instruments done, it was time for our friend Clément to record the keyboard parts, nourishing the epic riffs and deepening the soul of our new songs.

After one week, we returned to the studio to record the vocals.
Day 6 & 7
Finally Jeff recorded all vocals in less than two days.
